Copyright & Open Heritage Statement

Arteefa's mission is preserving and making accessible humanity's finest classical masterpieces without intellectual property barriers.

1. Creative Commons Zero (CC0 1.0 Universal)

The original paintings featured in the Arteefa archive were created centuries ago by historic masters who passed away long before copyright terms began. Under international copyright conventions, including the Berne Convention, works enter the Public Domain 70 years after the artist's death.

Arteefa dedicates all our curated digital processing, digital restoration, and color-calibrated scans to the public domain under Creative Commons Zero (CC0 1.0 Universal). You can copy, modify, distribute, print, sell, and perform the work, even for commercial purposes, all without asking permission.

2. Museum Open Access Alignment

Our master source files originate from world-class open-access museum initiatives:

  • The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met Open Access): CC0 public domain policy for all images of public domain works in its collection.
  • Rijksmuseum (Rijksstudio): Free high-resolution downloads for public domain masterworks.
  • National Gallery of Art, Washington: Open Access policy for free commercial and personal reuse.
  • Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA Open Access): CC0 license applied to collection scans.
